MOUNT VERNON — A single-car rollover three miles north of Mount Vernon resulted in no injuries, thanks to seat belts being worn.

The incident happened around 1:45 p.m. Wednesday on 251st Street, about a half-mile northwest of 397th Avenue, which is the paved road that runs north and south out of Mount Vernon.

A Mitsubishi Montero driven by Zach Vawser, 20, of Mount Vernon, was traveling west when the vehicle went into the north ditch and came back up onto the road before rolling over. A female juvenile passenger was also in the car when the accident occurred.

Davison County Deputy Greg Nelson said it appeared the front right tire slipped off the road, causing it to go in the ditch before it returned to the road and rolled. Nelson said the seat belts prevented injuries in the accident.

"It would have been a lot worse," he said.

The vehicle was totaled in the crash and no citations were issued.
