Valere Marlyce (Schrag Preheim) Wieger, 87, of Mitchell, died Friday, April 11, 2014 at Queen of Peace Hospital in Mitchell. Funeral services will be Tuesday, April 15, 2014, 10:30 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church in Mitchell. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery, Mitchell. Visitation will be 57 p.m. Monday with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. at the Bittner Funeral Chapel in Mitchell.

Valere was born May 6, 1926 at Sioux Falls, SD to Jonathan and Amelia (Gering) Schrag. She was baptized on October 31, 1941 by Rev. J.J. Regier at the Salem Zion (north) Church, rural Freeman. She grew up in Freeman, attending District 66 North Star and then Freeman High School. She married Melvin Preheim on October 11, 1944 at Freeman, SD and to that union four children were born. Over the years she worked at the Freeman Hospital Laundry and the Shady Pond Dairy in Freeman.

In 1963 she moved to Mitchell where she worked at Modern Cleaners and Palace Cleaners for many years and was a housekeeper at Brady Memorial Home for ten years. On August 10, 1965 she married Gabe Wieger at Mitchell. On November 10, 2002 she became a member of First Lutheran Church in Mitchell.

She loved to embroider, read, make jewelry, work on word finds, and jig saw puzzles. Valere was very loving and caring to all and especially to her children and grandchildren. She had a strong faith and was active in Bible Study.

Valere is survived by her daughter, Eileen Preheim of Tea, SD; 12 grandchildren; 19 great- grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; daughter-in-law Tena Preheim of Freeman; son-in-law, Rodger Kulm of Mitchell and her step-children and their spouses.

She was preceded in death by her husband Gabe May 29, 1992; sons: Orel Preheim in 2005 and Ivan Preheim in 2008; her daughter, Ila Kulm in 2014; a sister, Waynette in infancy and another sister, Verlyn; brother-in-law, Silas Waltner and her grandson-in-law, Tony Johnson.
