UPDATE: Malloy rejects reinstatement to USF basketball team
University of Sioux Falls senior men's basketball players Matt Malloy and Eric Tisby were partially reinstated Friday by coach Chris Johnson.
However, Malloy, a Parkston native, and Tisby rejected the reinstatement offer late this afternoon, according to USF Sports Information Director Matt Stull.
The reinstatement offer allowed Malloy and Tisby to practice and travel with the team, but they were not allowed to play for the team. By rejecting the offer, neither player will be a part of the team for the rest of the year.
The two players were suspended indefinitely following an incident on Jan. 28. Malloy and Tisby were arrested following an altercation at a Sioux Falls convenience store early that morning.
Malloy was later convicted of driving under the influence, and Tisby was convicted of simple assault.
Thursday, USF's Judiciary Committee met to discuss Malloy and Tisby's reinstatement, but it was Johnson's decision to reinstate the two players.
USF plays Dakota Wesleyan Saturday at 3 p.m. at the Stewart Center in Sioux Falls in the Great Plains Athletic Conference tourna-ment semifinals.
