Tyndall Cancer Walk set for Saturday
TYNDALL -- The second annual Bon Homme County Cancer Walk is this Saturday evening in Tyndall.
Event coordinator Amanda Souhrada said the walk will start at 8:30 p.m. with a survivors lap at the city park around the pond. Regular laps will follow.
The evening will end at 10:30 p.m. with silent auction baskets, which contain a variety of donated items, Souhrada said.
Registration for the event is $20, which includes a T-shirt and is based on a first-come, first-served basis.
"There will still be plenty of T-shirts," Souhrada said.
Luminaries also are available at Sandra Rose, on Main Street in Tyndall, or by contacting Souhrada at (605) 464-1247. They are $5 each, or five for $20.
Souhrada, whose father died from cancer in 2011, said she helped start the event last year after people started making inquiries.
"We determined there was definitely a need," she said.
Last year, Souhrada said with business support, the event raised more than $6,000, all of which was used to help Bon Homme County residents who have been diagnosed with cancer.
"I haven't had to turn anyone down," she said.
Applications for assistance are available at the Good Samaritan Center in Tyndall.
