Two SD truckers win 1 million mile safety award
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Two South Dakota men are among the safest over-the-road drivers in America, each having driven more than one million miles accident free.
Landstar System Inc., a transportation logistics company recently named 145 owner-operators to their 1-, 2- or 3-million-mile safe driver award categories.
Landstar named Scott Furchner, of Fort Pierre, and Joseph Walton, of Sioux Falls, to the 1-million-mile safe driver category.
According to Landstar, collectively, the 145 drivers who make up the Million Miler Class of 2013 have safely driven 165 million miles -- a distance that would cover the 4 million miles of public roads in the United States more than 41 times. On average, according to the company, it takes a truck operator 10 years to travel a million miles. This distance would take the typical driver of a passenger vehicle 67 years to complete.
