Two injured in 3-car accident
Two area people were injured in a three-vehicle accident on Tuesday night near Mitchell, authorities reported.
At about 5:30 p.m., a 2005 Ford Taurus and a 2008 Cadillac Escalade were westbound on Highway 38, headed into Mitchell. They then stopped at a construction zone stop sign, according to Trooper Grant Lubbers.
Lubbers said a third vehicle, a 2005 Chevrolet van, didn't realize the vehicles were stopped and ran into the back of the Escalade, which caused the Escalade to run into the back of the Taurus.
Lubbers said the driver of the Escalade was transported by ambulance to the hospital for serious but non-life threatening injuries, and the passenger of that vehicle was transported to the hospital by a third party for minor injuries. Both occupants are from Salem.
The trooper said the driver of the Chevy van, from Corsica, was checked by paramedics at the scene. Lubbers declined to release the names of any of the occupants pending notification of family members. He said charges are pending.
Lubbers said all three vehicles were towed from the scene.
