Two country acts announced for SD State Fair's grandstand show
HURON -- A pair of country acts have been announced for the 2013 South Dakota State Fair. The Eli Young Band and the Casey Donahew Band will perform on Saturday, Aug. 31.
"The combination of these two bands on the grandstand is going to be a great show," said State Fair Manager Jerome Hertel. "These guys know how to entertain an audience, and the State Fair is excited to welcome them to the stage."
The Eli Young Band started making country music when the four musicians met in college. The band has been influenced by a wide range of genres giving them an edgy country sound with a hint of rock. These musicians have been climbing country charts since the release of their selftitled debut album in 2002.
Their third single from their most recent album, "Say Good Night" has been climbing the charts since its release and was nominated for Best Country Duo/Group Performance at the 2013 Grammy Awards.
Opening will be the up-and-coming Texas country music group the Casey Donahew Band.
Donahew is a Texas native and has released a total of five albums since 2006, including a self-released live album in 2008.
The Casey Donahew Band's latest album, "Double-Wide Dream," climbed into the top 10 country music album charts after its release in late 2011.
Donahew's hits include "White Trash Story," "Stockyards," "One Star Flag," "Double-Wide Dream" and "Nowhere Fast."
"With the Casey Donahew Band, we really listened to people's suggestions and recognized they have a solid following in South Dakota," Hertel said. "We are extremely excited to bring Casey Donahew to the fair."
Ticket prices have not been set yet. Pre-sale on tickets will begin June 17 for backrest holders, followed by Friends of the Fair ticket sales on June 20. General public ticket sales will begin June 24.
The 2013 South Dakota State Fair will run from Aug. 29 through Sept. 2. Preview night will be Aug. 28.
