Mickelson signs with Mount Marty soccer program

Mitchell High School senior Renner Mickelson has signed to the Mount Marty College men’s soccer team in the fall, it was announced Monday.

The 6-foot-2 forward/outside midfielder is the co-record holder for most goals scored and most assists at Mitchell High School.

DWU women take third at invite

NEBRASKA CITY, Neb. — Lauren Fitts led the Dakota Wesleyan University women’s golf team to a third-place finish at the Peru State Spring Invite Monday.

The Tigers (648) followed champion Bellevue University (610) and Iowa Western Community College (630).

Fitts took fourth with a two-round score of 153, while Iowa Western’s Joana Yanez won the individual crown with a 149. DWU’s Jenna Winckler (160) tied for 10th, Chelsea Burback (163) took 12th, while Tiera Feller and April Barnett tied for 15th with 173s.

Titan baseball team gets 2 wins over weekend

The Mount Vernon/Plankinton/Woonsocket baseball team earned two wins Sunday.

MVPW defeated Elk Point-Jefferson 8-2 and Hanson 15-5.

Against EPJ, Charlie Mahaffey, Cody Renken and Deric Denning had two hits for the Titans, while Denning added three RBIs.

Denning also got the win on the mound, throwing five innings and recording six strikeouts.

In the victory over Hanson, Owen London recorded two hits and six RBIs for MVPW, which had 14 hits and one error.

Mahaffey earned the win on the mound and had three strikeouts.

Parkston baseball team earns first win of season

TABOR — The Parkston baseball team defeated Bon Homme 5-0 in its season opener Monday in Tabor.

Jacob Weber was the winning pitcher, giving up one hit and recording four strikeouts in four innings. Bon Homme’s Chase Kortan was the losing pitching, giving up two unearned runs.

Dillon Stadleman had two singles, scored twice and had two stolen bases for Parkston, Ty Kinneberg had one hit, a walk, scored twice and a stolen base and Lane Konrad had a double and two RBIs. Spencer Lucas and Zach Scott each recorded a single for Bon Homme (0-1).

Andrew Roland had a double and Carter Mecha and Duncan Stoebner each had a single in the loss.

Parkston (1-0) plays Beresford at 6 p.m. Friday in Dimock.
