Former N. Dakota State head coach to lead Wyoming football team

LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) — New Wyoming football coach Craig Bohl says the Cowboys will improve on defense.

Bohl was named Wyoming’s new coach on Sunday.

This season Wyoming allowed an average of 482 yards per game, ranking it 111 out of 123 FBS schools in total defense. The Cowboys ranked 109 in scoring defense, giving up an average of 36.7 points per game.

Bohl brings a defensive coaching background and as a head coach at North Dakota State his team ranks No. 1 in scoring defense and No. 2 in total defense in the FCS this season.

Bohl says a strong defense is important, especially with the high elevation at Laramie.

He says an explosive, balanced offense also is necessary but he noted that defenses win championships.
