Young scores 17 in exhibition for SDSU Jackrabbits

BROOKINGS — Mitchell native Kerri Young scored 17 points in her first women’s basketball game for South Dakota State University Sunday.

The freshman guard, who is Mitchell High School’s all-time leading scorer, came off the bench in the Jackrabbits’ 100-57 win over Bemidji State Sunday at Frost Arena.

Young also had two rebounds and two steals in 21 minutes of action.

SDSU plays another exhibition game Friday against Minnesota State-Mankato in Brookings.

2 MHS girls given all-state honors

Two Mitchell High School girls were named to the South Dakota Soccer Coaches Association’s girls’ all-state soccer team, it was announced Monday.

Junior midfielder Emily Paulson was voted second-team all-state, while sophomore defender Bailey Hohn was tabbed as an honorable mention.

Senior forward Kara Hanson and senior midfielder Katie Stern were named academic all-state.
