Tuesday's basketball roundup: Andes Central girls top Freeman Academy 35-21
LAKE ANDES — The Andes Central girls’ basketball team picked up its first win of the season, topping Freeman Academy 31-25 Monday in Lake Andes.
The Eagles (1-3) were led by Auviyah Laweka with a team-high eight points and four steals, while Jo Marie Garcia added six points, 13 rebounds and two blocks in the win. Beulah Black Cloud finished with six points,10 rebounds and four steals for Andes Central.
Clara Koemer had a double-double in the loss for the Bobcats. The junior forward scored 10 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.
Bethany Wollman added seven points and 12 rebounds for Freeman Academy, while Emily Epp finished with five points, three rebounds, four assists and four steals.
The Eagles play Tripp-Delmont/Armour Jan. 4 in Armour, while the Bobcats (0-3) play Menno Jan. 3 in Menno.

Sanborn Central/Woonsocket 73, Howard 55
HOWARD — The Sanborn Central/Woonsocket girls’ basketball team moved to 3-0 on the season with a 73-55 win over Howard Monday in Howard.
Shelby Selland finished with a double-double to lead the Blackhawks. She scored 24 points and grabbed 15 prebounds.
Myah Selland alos had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds, while Marissa Weber and Morgan Selland each added 13 points in the win.
Howard was led by Kelsey Dawson with 21 points and 11 rebounds for a double-double in the loss. Mariah Noid and Taylor Noid each scored 12 points for the Tigers.
Howard (1-3) won the JV game and plays Arlington Jan. 6 in Howard, while SCW plays Hitchcock-Tulare Jan. 4 in Forestburg.

McCook Central/Montrose 51, Tea Area 29
TEA — The McCook Central Montrose girls’ basketball team topped Tea Area 51-29 Monday in Tea.
MCM’s Brianna Painter scored a game-high 21 points and had four steals in the win.
Nicole Roth added nine points for the Fighting Cougars, while Rachael Laetsch had eight assists and two steals.
MCM shot 49 percent from the field and 90 percent from the free-throw line, while also winning the rebounding battle 27 to 23.
Taylor Gjertson had a team-high 10 points and grabbed three rebounds for the Titans.
MCM (3-1) won the JV game and plays Sioux Falls Christian Jan. 6 in Montrose, while Tea (1-4) plays West Central Saturday in Tea.

MARION —The Hanson girls’ basketball team topped Marion 64-26 Monday in Marion.
The Beavers were led by Kynedi Cheeseman, who finished with a game-high 21 points and added 10 rebounds for a double-double. She also had four steals.
Sydney Dodd added 13 points and four assists in the win for Hanson.
Devin Nelson scored a team-high 14 points for the Bears, which shot 7-of-33 from the field as a team.
The Beavers shot 43 percent from the field and won the rebound battle 28 to 19.
The Beavers (5-0) play Sully Buttes Saturday in the Parkston Classic in Parkston, while The Bears (0-3) play Alcester-Hudson Jan. 3 in Alcester.

Sanborn Central/Woonsocket 90, Howard 30
HOWARD — Sanborn Central/Woonsocket boys’ basketball coach Rod Weber notched his 200th career win Monday in Howard.
The Blackhawks (3-0) topped the Howard Tigers 90-30.
SCW had six players score in double figures, led by Davion Brooks, who finished with 20 points and nine rebounds. The Blackhawks also got 13 points from Brady Tiede, 11 from Jaedyn Ford and Jarid Bechen, and 10 from Tyler Krueger and Dillon Moore.
The Tigers were led by David Noid with nine points
SCW shot 37-of-65 from the field and won the rebound battle 31 to 12.
Howard shot 12-of-45 from the field and turned the ball over 21 times.
SCW (3-0) won the JV game and plays Hitchcock-Tulare Jan. 4 in Forestburg, while Howard (0-4) plays Arlington Jan. 6 in Howard.

Hanson 90, Marion 49
MARION— Taylor Nichols scored a game-high 32 points and grabbed six rebounds for the Hanson boys’ basketball team in a 90-49 win over Marion Monday in Marion.
Jacob Paradeis added 13 assists in the win for the Beavers, while Jordan Marquardt finished 17 points and five steals. Sam VanderStouwe scored 10 points in the win.
Three Bears finished in double figures, led by Jacob Wuertz with 15 points, while Nick Gortmaker and Greg Engbrecht added 12 points.
Hanson shot 73 percent from the field and outrebounded the Bears 30 to 20. Marion shot 33 percent from the field and had 21 turnovers to 11 by the Beavers.
Marion (1-1) plays Alcester-Hudson Jan. 2 in Alcester, while Hanson (5-0) plays James Valley Christian in the Parkston Classic Monday.

LAKE ANDES — The Freeman Academy boys’ basketball team topped Andes Central 58-50 Monday in Lake Andes.
The Bobcats (2-2) were led by Josh Stahl, who scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for the double-double. Stahl added four assists and three steals in the win. PaSait Mboob scored 15 points and grabbed six rebounds for the Bobcats, while Jeff Graber scored 12.
The Eagles were led by Darrin Hopkins, who scored 14 points and pulled down 11 rebounds for a double-double. Joe Evans scored 13 and Aaron Swanson added 10 in the loss.
