Tribal housing act advances in Congress
WASHINGTON — U.S. Sen. Tim Johnson, D-S.D., on Friday applauded committee approval of the reauthorization of the Native American Housing Assistance and Self-Determination Act.
The Senate Committee on Indian Affairs, of which Johnson is a senior member, unanimously passed the bill out of committee this week. This bill seeks to provide Native communities with safe and affordable housing options and includes a new provision to increase housing assistance to Native American veterans.
“The reauthorization of NAHASDA is critical to providing safe, affordable and high-quality housing opportunities in Indian Country,” Johnson said in a written statement.
