USD women beat S. Utah 81-69
VERMILLION -- The South Dakota women's basketball team took down Southern Utah 81-69 in Summit League action Saturday.
South Dakota improved to 9-3 overall and 2-2 in the Summit League. The Coyotes travel to Kansas, Mo., to play UMKC for their next game on Saturday.
Senior Amber Hegge scored a game-high 28 points and Jodie Boss added a double-double scoring 14 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.
Timberwolves blowout Mavericks
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- Kevin Love had 25 points and 17 rebounds and hit two huge 3s in the fourth quarter to help the Minnesota Timberwolves beat the Dallas Mavericks 99-82 on Sunday night, ending an 18-game losing streak dating to last season.
The young Wolves closed the game with a 15-0 run and this win has been a long time coming. Ricky Rubio added 14 points and seven assists.
Allen gets 22 sacks on season
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- Jared Allen needed 4½ sacks Sunday against the Bears to break Michael Strahan's single-season NFL record. He came up just one short.
The Minnesota Vikings defensive end had 3½ sacks of Josh McCown in the first 40 minutes of game time, but couldn't get the final one in a 17-13 loss to Chicago.
Allen finished the season with 22 sacks, tying Jets defensive end Mark Gastineau for the second-highest single-season total in NFL history.
