Little, Carlson representing DWU in bowl game

Two Dakota Wesleyan University senior football players will line up Sunday in the National Bowl Game in Allentown, Pa.

Nathan Little and Derek Carlson are taking the field one final time, playing alongside All-American and all-conference players from NCAA and NAIA colleges and universities from around the country.

Carlson is a punter and tight end and will compete for the Red Team. He's a Sioux Falls native who earned all-Great Plains Athletic Conference second-team special team honors.

Little is competing for the Blue Team. He earned all-GPAC first-team offensive honors as an offensive lineman. The Aberdeen native helped DWU's offense run for 1,251 yards and for throw 2,397 yards.

Booster club night at Kernels game

The Kernels vs. Lynx boys' basketball game tonight is a Mitchell High School booster club night.

Those with a membership card will receive admittance and memberships will be available to purchase at the game.

Courtney Moore signs with NSU

Mitchell High School senior Courtney Moore signed to play fastpitch softball with Northern State University Nov. 17.

The first baseman will join NSU, an NCAA Division II school, next fall.

Moore was an all-state softball selection her junior and senior years with Mitchell.

Wessington Springs native hired at USD

Wessington Springs native and Dakota Wesleyan University graduate Abby Mettler has been hired at the University of South Dakota as an assistant athletic trainer.

The school announced Mettler's hiring Thursday.

Mettler graduated from DWU in 2011 and earned her master's degree in athletic training from the University of Virginia one year later.

SDSU men beat Trojans 83-52

BROOKINGS -- Jordan Dykstra had 21 points and a career-high 12 rebounds to lead South Dakota State to an 83-52 win over Dakota State on Thursday night.

Tony Fiegen scored a career-high 17 points and grabbed six rebounds. Brayden Carlson and Chad White had 10 apiece for the Jackrabbits (7-3).

Dakota State scored first and opened an early 11-5 lead, but the Jackrabbits responded with a 17-1 run and would lead 35-25 at halftime. Dykstra scored eight points early in the second half to give the Jackrabbits a 43-27 lead. Their biggest lead was 32.

Coyote women beat DSU 90-35

VERMILLION -- Nicole Seekamp recorded her second straight 20-point game in the University of South Dakota women's 90-35 victory over Dakota State University Thursday.

USD's Polly Harrington had her second straight double-double, recording 16 points and 10 rebounds.

All ten players for the Coyotes (4-5) scored in the game.

DSU (3-6) was led by Alyson Drooger, who scored 12 points in the loss.
