Titans win Custer Battlefield Highway volleyball tourney

KIMBALL — The Mount Vernon/Plankinton volleyball team stormed through the competition for a first-place finish at the Custer Battlefield Highway Conference tournament Saturday in Kimball.

The Titans (5-2) finished off an undefeated day with a win over Mitchell Christian in the championship match. The set scores in the final were 25-20, 25-7.

Makaela Karst led MV/P in the final with four aces, five kills and nine digs, while Mikayla Weiss had 37 total assists in the tournament.

The Golden Eagles (4-6) got four kills from Abbie Reynen in the final, while Emily Reynen had three kills and three blocks.

MV/P plays a rematch against Kimball/White Lake Tuesday in White Lake. The Titans topped the WiLdKats in two sets Saturday in the pool-play round of the CBH tournament.

Mitchell Christian plays Wolsey-Wessington Tuesday in Mitchell.

Ethan 2, Kimball/White Lake 1

KIMBALL — In the third-place match of the Custer Battlefield Highway tourney, Ethan defeated Kimball/White Lake in three sets on Saturday.

The set scores were 25-15, 20-25, 25-16.

The Rustlers (7-2) were led by Anna Mueller with eight kills and five blocks in the match. Holley Lindeman had a team-high 52 assists in the three matches Ethan played in the tournament.

The WiLdKats (3-3) got 19 kills and 11 digs from Haley Pazour on the day. Courtney Elmers added six digs and three aces for K/WL in the third-place match.

Next, Ethan heads to Dakota Christian Tuesday, while K/WL hosts the Titans Tuesday.

Sanborn Central/Woonsocket 2, Corsica/Stickney 0

KIMBALL — The Sanborn Central/Woonsocket Blackhawks took the fifth-place match of the Custer Battlefield Highway Conference tournament over Corsica/Stickney Saturday in Kimball.

The Blackhawks (3-3) got seven digs, 11 assists and two aces from Rachel Selland. Myah Selland added seven kills and four blocks for SC/W.

Dijana Muilenburg led the Jaguars (0-6) with 10 assists and five digs, while Micayla Bamberg had five kills.

The Blackhawks play at Wessington Springs Tuesday, while Corsica/Stickney hosts Parkston Tuesday.

Sioux Valley 3, McCook Central/Montrose 1

BALTIC — McCook Central/Montrose dropped a tough four-set match to Sioux Valley Saturday in Baltic.

Set scores were 21-25, 25-15, 25-15, 25-22.

C.J. Ristesund led the Fighting Cougars (2-8) with 13 kills and 15 digs in the loss, while Danielle Hansen recorded 13 kills and one block. Leading MC/M on the defensive side was senior LauraKlaudt with 28 digs, while Brianna Painter had 16 digs and 20 assists.

The Fighting Cougars play Sioux Falls Christian Tuesday in Sioux Falls.

Elkton/Lake Benton 2, Winner 0

CLARK — Winner took second place at the Clark tournament, falling in two sets to Elkton/Lake Benton Saturday in Clark.

The set scores were 21-25, 23-25.

The loss was the first of the season for Winner (8-1) and came after the Warriors cruised to the final with two-set victories over De Smet, Aberdeen Roncalli and Webster Area.

For the day, Winner’s Cassidy Hanson finished with 38 kills and 37 digs, while Lindsey Calhoon recorded 18 kills and 53 digs. Sara Husher posted a team-high 76 assists for the Warriors.

The Warriors play Lyman Tuesday in Winner.
