"Aireus is a guy we like to take the shot at the end of the game," DWU head coach Shane Murphy said. "We had several different options, but they had them covered pretty well and we just weren't able to get a good look."

The game was tied at 54 with 5:14 to play and Mines and Technology went on a 6-1 run on two 3-pointers for a 60-55 lead.

But Stephenson hit a three with 1:48 left to pull the Tigers within 60-58. After a Mines and Technology free throw, Stephenson's missed shot dropped DWU's record to 3-4 on the season.

Carde Pennington came off the bench for 14 points to lead DWU. The guard hit 4 of 5 3-pointers, while Stephenson finished with 13 points. Wesleyan was 22-of-49 from the field and had 18 turnovers to Mines and Technology's 20. Wesleyan also won the rebounding battle 29-25, getting a team-high five from Jalen Voss and Danny Maman.

"We put ourselves in a really tough situation with 18 turnovers. That, combined with our big men like Jalen Voss getting into foul trouble early, made us struggle on the offensive end," Murphy said.

Mines and Technology was led by A.J. Trennepohl, who came off the bench to hit five 3-pointers and finish with a game-high 17 points. Caleb Shockman had 16 points.

Mines and Technology was 22-of-49 from the field and 11-of-16 from the free-throw line.

DWU, which won its first game at the Thanksgiving Classic over the University of Great Falls, gets back to Great Plains Athletic Conference play Wednesday. The Tigers host Dordt College at 8 p.m. at the Corn Palace.
