TUSCON, Ariz. — The Dakota Wesleyan University baseball team went 3-1 over the weekend in Tucson, Ariz.

Saturday, the Tigers (6-5) split with Indiana Wesleyan University, winning the opener 116 and losing the second 3-2 on a walkoff sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh.

In the first game, Neil Nagle and Ben Ladner each went 3-for-4 with two RBIs for DWU, which had 14 total hits. Cody Silveria went 2-for-2, while Chris Housley got the win on the mound, giving up four runs on three hits while striking out one in three innings.

In the doubleheader finale, DWU had one hit recorded by Jared Neilan. Pitcher Shaun Dean took the loss for the Tigers, giving up one run on one hit in 1 1/3 innings. He struck out one. Patrick Whetham got the start, giving up two runs on six hits in five innings of work.

In Sunday’s doubleheader, the Tigers swept Missouri Valley College 6-1 and 9-8.

In the first game, DWU was led by Ben Spitznagel and Sam Schumacher, who each went 2-for-4. Kyle Larson earned the win after giving up one run on four hits while striking out three in five innings.

The Tigers finished the weekend by holding off a seventh-inning comeback by MVC, who scored four runs in the seventh, to win 9-8. DWU’s Jake Stafford went 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI and Lucas Doerhoff went 2-for-4 with a triple and an RBI.

The Tigers recorded 11 hits and and one error in the game, while Dean got the save. Dean gave up two hits in 2/3 innings.

The Tigers continue play in Arizona against the University of Winnipeg. The game begins at 10 a.m.
