Four Tigers earn all-conference wrestling honors

Four Dakota Wesleyan University wrestlers were selected all-Great Plains Athletic Conference, it was announced Wednesday.

Junior Trever DeVestern (165) was voted first-team all-GPAC, while seniors Richard Rios (133), Tyler Sarringar (184) and junior Mount Vernon native Kyle Gerlach (149) were tabbed to the second team.

All four wrestlers are also headed to the NAIA wrestling National Championships March 7-8 in Topeka, Kan.

Kernel girls host District 3AA game Monday at Palace

The top-ranked Mitchell girls’ basketball team hosts the Huron Tigers in a District 3AA game at 5 p.m. Monday at the Corn Palace in Mitchell.

Ticket prices for adults are $6 and $4 for students.

Two District 8B boys’ basketball games will follow the Kernels’ matchup.

The Kernel boys start their road to the state tournament with a District 3AA game against the top-ranked Huron Tigers at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday at the Huron Arena.
