Three local wrestlers win state youth titles

RAPID CITY — Three Mitchell youth wrestlers won state titles at the AAU Youth State Tournament over the weekend in Rapid City.

Carson Max, Joe VanOverschelde and Kale Hofer were Mitchell’s three champions. Mitchell had 28 kids in the tournament and 11 placed.

Max was crowned in the school boys 160-pound weight class, VanOverschelde won the midget 103-pound weight class and Hofer finished atop the tot 35-pound weight class.

Brody Riggs just missed a state championship, finishing runner-up in the midget 112-pound weight class. Hadley Wallace took fourth in the midget 103-pound weight class, Carter Max was fifth in the school boys heavyweight and Karter Sibson took sixth in the bantam 65-pound weight class.

Four others took seventh at state, including Denen Ellwein in the tot 55-pound weight class, Camen Max at midget heavyweight, Ryan McGinnis at novice 95-pound weight class and Kyler Bauder at novice 100-pound weight class.
