“The boys and girls had a very nice day,” Mitchell track coach and activities director Geoff Gross said. “The weather was outstanding, we were hoping for good performances and we weren’t disappointed.”

Munsen crossed the finish line in 2 minutes, 27.19 seconds, beating teammate Kaelyn Kaul, who came in second place with a time of 2:29.50. Rew finished first in the 100 hurdles with a time of 15.19, beating second-place finisher Caelie Williams, of Pierre, by just over 2 seconds. Rew finished the 300 hurdles with a time of 47.88, ahead of Kalli Thue of Watertown. Rew set a new personal record in the 300 by 3 seconds. Sudbeck won the discus with a throw of 116 feet, 3 inches and also set a personal record.

“Ellie ran great,” Gross said. “She has worked hard in the offseason in the weightroom and it is exciting to see her hard work pay off. Naomi struggled a bit last year, but she looked really good up in Aberdeen and looked great Friday. Abby was Abby, we probably used her a little too much today and that might have hurt her in the shot put.”

Gross was also impressed by the performances of Kaul and Mary Krause.

No Mitchell boy won an individual event, but the Kernels had several athletes finish fourth in a variety of events. Spencer Neugebauer finished in fourth place in the boys 100- and 200-meter dashes. Tyler Larson took fourth place in the boys 400-meter dash, Cole Palmer took fourth in the boys 800-meter run, while Parker Wenzel took fourth in the boys 300-meter hurdles. Ben Prill also finished fourth in the boys long jump.
