Teen in custody after foot pursuit
A 17-year-old boy who fled Tuesday from the Davison County Courthouse in Mitchell was chased on foot by police through backyards of nearby homes before being detained.
The 17-year-old, whose name is not being released because of his age, fled from the courtroom shortly after 11:30 a.m. after being told he was being taken into custody, according to Mitchell Police Detective Lt. Don Everson.
A foot pursuit began, and after chasing the teen through backyards of nearby homes, at least 10 officers converged on the scene and took him into custody approximately four blocks from the courthouse, Everson said.
"He failed to listen to commands of the officers and he was taken to the ground and handcuffed," Everson said.
The entire incident lasted approximately 12 minutes, Everson said. The 17-year-old was not armed during the incident and no one was hurt during the pursuit.
Details of any charges filed against the teen will not be released because of his age.
