Sunshine League Cadwell Classic: Dimock/Emery, Mudcats win two at event

The Dimock/Emery amateur baseball team defeated Winner/Colome 17-11 Monday in the Sunshine League Cadwell Classic.

There were eight games in the event played over Sunday and Monday at Cadwell Park in Mitchell.

Doug Sudbeck got the win on the mound for Dimock/Emery. He gave up six runs (four earned) on 10 hits in four innings. Winner/Colome's Derek Graesser took the loss, giving up eight runs on seven hits while striking out five.

Steve Ernster had two hits and two RBIs, Phil Johnson recorded two hits and three RBIs and Josh Enquist had three hits and six RBIs, including a double and a triple.

Graesser added two hits for Winner/Colome.

Dimock/Emery (8-1, 2-0 Sunshine) plays the Mitchell Mad Dogs at 8 p.m. Thursday in Emery. Winner/Colome fell to 1-2 on the season.

Canova 4, Alexandria 3

The Alexandria Angels suffered their first loss of the season Monday after falling to the Canova Gang 4-3 at Cadwell Park.

Thomas Gulledge was the losing pitcher, giving up three runs on four hits in one inning. He recorded a strikeout and a walk. Alexandria's Tyson Gau threw six innings, giving up one run on five hits and struck out eight.

Canova's Gavin Gassman was the winning pitcher, giving up three runs on seven hits while striking out five in five innings.

Cole Wenande was 3-for-4 and Cory Marek was 2-for-3 for the Angels. Curt Carlson was 2-for-4 with three RBIs and Jared Donahue was 2-for-3 for Canova.

Alexandria (5-1, 2-0 Sunshine) plays at Mount Vernon at 8 p.m. Thursday.

Parkston Mudcats 4, Sioux Falls Brewers 3

The Parkston Mudcats defeated the Sioux Falls Brewers 4-3 Monday at Cadwell Park in Mitchell.

Brady Nolz was the winning pitcher, giving up five hits while striking out six and walking two.

Dan Bonte, Trevor Freudenthal and Chris Welch each recorded a single in the win.

Parkston (9-2, 1-2 Sunshine) plays Tripp-Delmont at 8 p.m. Thursday in Tripp.

Canova 4, Platte 3

The Canova Gang defeated Platte 4-3 Monday at Cadwell Park.

No stats were reported for both of Platte's Memorial Day weekend games. Sunday, Platte defeated the Sioux Falls Saints 4-2.

Dimock/Emery 9, Sioux Falls Brewers 0

Dimock/Emery defeated the Sioux Falls Brewers 9-0 Sunday at Cadwell Park.

Josh Engquist was the winning pitcher, giving up five hits while striking out 11 in seven innings. Derek Fischer was the losing pitcher for the Brewers, giving up three runs in four innings.

Jared Schmidt had three hits including a double and Jon Hart recorded two hits in the win.

Parkston Mudcats 6, Sioux Falls Saints 2

The Parkston Mudcats topped the Sioux Falls Saints 6-2 Sunday at Cadwell Park in Mitchell.

Trevor Kuiper was the winning pitcher. He gave up six hits, struck out eight and walked three in the victory.

Pat Harris, Mike Lukkason and Trevor Freudenthal each had two hits for the Mudcats.

Alexandria 13, Winner/Colome 0

The Alexandria Angels shut out Winner/Colome 13-0 in five innings Sunday at Cadwell Park in Mitchell.

Trever Vermeulen was the winning pitcher, striking out 10, walking one and giving up two hits in five innings. J.J. Farner took the loss, giving up 11 runs on five hits while striking out four in 3 2/3 innings.

Alexandria's Trevor Doyle was 2-for-3 with five RBIs, Cory Marek was 1-for-1 with two RBIs and Cole Wenande was 2-for-2 with two RBIs.

Derek Graesser and Dillion Lambley each had a hit for Winner/Colome.
