Study: 1 in 4 at risk for online fraud
SIOUX FALLS -- Many South Dakotans are vulnerable to Internet fraud, according to a new study from AARP.
Called "Caught in the Scammer's Net," the survey found that one in four Internet users across the state may be at increased risk of being victimized.
The study compared fraud victims and non-victims, and found that a combination of online behaviors and life experiences puts a person at the greatest risk of being scammed. Among those at highest risk are people who are in debt, have lost jobs or who feel lonely or isolated.
The survey is online at aarp.org/onlinefraud.
