State records first case of mosquito-borne virus
SIOUX FALLS (AP) — State health officials say South Dakota has recorded its first case of a mosquito-borne virus that has been spreading in the U.S. from the Caribbean.
State epidemiologist Lon Kightlinger tells the Sioux Falls Argus Leader that the chikungunya virus has been diagnosed in someone who was visiting the island of St. Lucia in July.
