Womack gave up one unearned run on three hits. Dustin Steckler suffered the loss, giving up three runs, one earned, on seven hits while striking out five.
Garretson had three hits in the game, with Nick Bonte picking up an RBI. Harrisburg’s Brian Stoebner, Justin Nepp and Billy Stitz each had two hits.
Larchwood (Iowa) 2, Dimock/Emery 1 (12 innings) The Dimock/Emery Raptors suffered a first-round loss to Larchwood (Iowa) Friday afternoon at the Class B state amateur baseball tournament at Cadwell Park in Mitchell.The Raptors fell 2-1 in 12 innings and are eliminated from the tournament. Larchwood advances to play Irene at 8 p.m. Monday.Larchwood scored on a single by Travis Feekes in the bottom of the 12th inning.
Irene 11, Madison 9 The Irene Cardinals defeated the Madison Broncos 11-9 in a first-round game Friday at the South Dakota Class B state amateur baseball tournament at Cadwell Park in Mitchell.A three-run seventh inning put Irene ahead 8-7 and the Cardinals added three more runs in the top of the eighth to take a 11-7 lead. Madison was able to add a run in the eighth and ninth but it wasn’t enough to retake the lead.Mitch Dunbar went 2-for-5 with three RBIs and Trevor Jacobsen added three RBIs while going 3-for-5 to lead the Cardinals.Andrew Hora earned the win on the mound for Irene after coming in to relieve Simon Healy. Hora pitched 5 2/3 innings, giving up three runs off seven hits.Mitch McNary went 3-for-5 with two RBIs to lead the Broncos offensively. Nick Bird added three hits and two RBIs.Chris Brozik took the loss for Madison, giving up eight runs off 11 hits and striking out two.Irene (15-11) advances to play at 8 p.m. Monday at Cadwell Park. Madison is eliminated.
Thursday's games Clark 14, Northville 12 A three-run eighth inning carried Clark over Northville 14-12 in an opening-round game of the South Dakota Class B state amateur baseball tournament Thursday at Cadwell Park.Jake Esser went 3-for-5 with four RBIs to lead the Clark Traders. Brady Welk went 2-for-5 with a double and three RBIs and Bryce DesLauriers added three hits and two RBIs for the Traders.Earning the win on the mound for Clark was Andrew Wegner, who pitched the final two innings after coming in to relieve Taylor Welk. Bryan Weber took the loss for Northville, allowing seven runs on eight hits over five innings with three strikeouts.Alex Bauer went 3-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs to lead Northville. A.J. Overby and Mark Abrahamson each added a double and two RBIs.Clark (18-5) advances to play Plankinton at 5:30 p.m. Sunday at Cadwell Park. Northville (7-16) is eliminated.
Akron 7, Milbank 0 The Akron Rebels jumped out to a seven-run lead after the first inning and didn’t look back as they beat the Milbank Firechiefs 7-0 in an opening-round game of the South Dakota Class B state amateur baseball tournament Thursday at Cadwell Park.Jared Kirkeby pitched a complete-game three-hit shutout with five strikeouts to lead Akron.Jeff Gacke went 1-for-4 with two RBIs and Brett Stolpe added two hits to lead the Rebels.Taking the loss for Milbank was Lance Frogner, who gave up seven runs on six hits in eight innings with nine strikeouts.Adam Mills had two of the Firechiefs’ three hits with Frogner adding the other.Akron (15-2) plays the winner of the Wynot/Lennox game at 6 p.m. Monday at Cadwell Park.
Wynot 2, Lennox 1 The Wynot Expos outlasted Lennox 2-1 in a first-round game at the South Dakota Class B state amateur baseball tournament Thursday at Cadwell Park in Mitchell.Kyle Wiepen and Matt Hames each had an RBI for Wynot with Wiepen going 2-for-4 to lead the team. Scott Heimes and Lee Heimes each scored a run for the Expos.Scott Morrison earned the win on the mound for Wynot, pitching a complete game, allowing one run off seven hits and striking out nine.Jared Hegdahl took the loss for Lennox, giving up two runs off eight hits and adding six strikeouts.Justin Reilly went 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI to lead Lennox offensively. Drew Sweeter and Aaron Johnson each added two hits.Wynot (16-11) advances to play Akron at 6 p.m. Monday at Cadwell Park. Lennox is eliminated and finish the year 9-10.
