Jaguars top Miller

MILLER — Austin Tilton had 214 yards on 15 carries to help lead Corsica/Stickney to a 44-6 victory over Miller Friday.

Bailey Lagge carried the ball nine times for Corsica/Stickney and finished with 97 yards, while Mason Van Vuuren had 87 yards on 15 carries. Cameron Kostal had 12 tackles to lead the way for the Jaguar defense. Corsica/Stickney quarterback Brian Joachim was 5-for-5 with 82 yards through the air.

Devon Gnat had 141 yards on the ground to lead the way for Miller.

Corsica/Stickney (2-0) plays Freeman Friday in Stickney.

MHS boys lose to O’Gorman 2-0

SIOUX FALLS — The Mitchell Kernels boys’ soccer team could not find the back of the net in a 2-0 loss to Sioux Falls O’Gorman Saturday.

Mitchell (2-4-2) goalkeeper Cole Carlson made 15 saves to keep his team close throughout the match.

“We just didn’t finish in the final third and you can’t win if you don’t score,” Mitchell head coach Jason Wear said after his team managed just six shots.

The Kernels host Harrisburg at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Kernel girls fall to SF O’Gorman

SIOUX FALLS — The Mitchell High School girls’ soccer team was defeated by Sioux Falls O’Gorman 6-0 Saturday in Sioux Falls.

The Kernels (1-7-1) are dealing with several injuries and will look to use the next week off to recover and get healthy as they prepare for the rest of the season.

“We’re dealing with injuries right now and having the next week off should help us,” Mitchell coach Kayla Braffet said.

The Kernels return home to face Aberdeen Central at 5 p.m. Saturday.

DWU places three runners in top 25

MADISON — Haley Brunke, Kellan Willett and Trace Tjeerdsma each finished in the top 25 for the Dakota Wesleyan University cross country team at the Herb Blakely Invite Saturday in Madison.

For the women, Scotland native Brunke posted a team-best 18th-place finish in a time of 21 minutes, 34.42 seconds. Skylar Forgey was the next best DWU womens’ runner, crossing the line in 28th place in a time of 22:22.66.

Willett topped the DWU men’s team in 22nd place with a time of 27:56.50, while Tjeerdsma finished in 24th place with a time of 28:09.29.

DWU cross country will compete next at the Dean White Invite on Sept. 28 in Crete, Neb.

Tea beats MC/MV

TEA — The Mitchell Christian/Mount Vernon boys’ soccer team dropped a 7-2 decision to Tea Area Saturday.

MC/MV (1-6) got on the scoreboard with a first-half penalty kick from senior Phillip Millar, but trailed 5-1 heading into the half. Craig Van Zee added a tally in the second half.

Goalkeeper Noah Bowman tried his best to hold MC/MV in the game, stopping 21 Tea Area shots.

MC/MV plays Chamberlain at 5 p.m. Tuesday in Chamberlain.
