The state Agriculture Department announced Tuesday that students in grades 9-12 can compete in the 2015 contest. Its theme is how technology is "bridging the conservation generation gap."

Local contest winners will advance to area competitions in seven locations. Top area speakers will compete in Pierre on April 25, 2015, for a $1,100 first place prize, a $750 second place prize and a $450 third place prize.

Scholarships are provided by the East River and Rushmore Electric Power Cooperatives and South Dakota Rural Electric Association.
