South Dakota GFP Commission eyes refuge changes
PIERRE (AP) — South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks commissioners are looking at changing two of the state's game refuges to waterfowl refuges.
The plan they're studying would also eliminate three waterfowl refuges.
One change would reclassify Reid Lake State Game Refuge as Reid Lake State Waterfowl Refuge and allow limited opportunities for upland game hunting at the area that's important for migration.
Another proposal would change White Lake State Game Refuge to White Lake State Waterfowl Refuge. The unit boundary would be modified to make it a waterline waterfowl hunting refuge and offer more upland game hunting.
Stink Lake State Game Refuge, Dry Lake State Waterfowl Refuge and Bullhead Lake State Waterfowl Refuge would be removed from refuge status.
Proposals are available and comments can be posted at https://rules.sd.gov.
