South Dakota exports grow to nearly $1.6B
South Dakota saw year-to-year growth in exports, according to a recent report by the federal International Trade Administration.
Exports increased from $1.556 billion to $1.573 billion from 2012 to 2013. South Dakota was one of 26 states to either set a record for foreign trade or to show an increase in merchandise exports.
2008 was South Dakota’s record year for exports with $1.653 billion. Since 2005, South Dakota exports have grown by 60 percent as measured in dollars.
South Dakota’s top trading partners in 2013, in order, were Canada, $689 million; Mexico, $374 million; Saudi Arabia, $69 million; China, $48 million; and Japan, $40 million.
