Snowmobile falls through Jim River ice; no one injured

A snowmobile fell through the ice Tuesday evening, but no one was injured, authorities said.

Hanson County Sheriff Randy Bartlett said around 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, Jessica Campbell, a 19-year-old he believed to be from Mitchell, was traveling along the James River by Shanard Road near Mitchell, when the snowmobile went through the ice.

Bartlett said the machine went about halfway through the ice, but was unsure how deep the water was. He said Campbell was uninjured, but was transported to Avera Queen of Peace Hospital for observation.
