Snow to the west postpones Winner, Colome, Lyman games
Football games, scheduled to be played Friday, were postponed due to heavy snows that hammered the Black Hills and kept the teams like the Hill City Rangers from playing the Lyman Raiders.
On Saturday snows closed most roads in the Hills and Interstate 90 from Wall to the Wyoming border.
That postponed game will be played at 5 p.m. today in Presho.
“In my yard the snow was almost 3 feet high,” Hill City resident Francine Mesteth said. She added that snow began melting quickly on Sunday.
“There’s water everywhere,” she said.
National Weather Service hydrologist Mike Gillispie said that Edgemont, farther south, received about 8 inches of snow over the weekend. Edgemont will play its makeup game at 4 p.m. in Colome.
Other games postponed due to inclement weather that will be played today include: Wagner vs. Todd County, at 5 p.m. in Mission; and Winner vs. St. Thomas More (Rapid City) will be played at 5 p.m. in Winner.
Winner didn’t get any snow, but received about 2.85 inches of rain over the weekend, Gillispie said.
Gillispie said the week’s temperatures will be in the 50s in snow-covered areas and in the 60s and 70s elsewhere in the state.
