Sister Marietta Rourke

Sister Marietta Rourke, 97, a Sister of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, died Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at Presentation Convent.

The Mass of Christian Burial for Sister Marietta will be Saturday, February 22, 2014, at 11:00 a.m., at Blessed Sacrament Chapel at Presentation Convent, Aberdeen, SD. A Scriptural Wake service will be Friday, February 21 at 7:00 p.m. at Blessed Sacrament Chapel with viewing from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Father Joseph Sheehan is celebrant and homilist at the Mass.

Burial will be at the Sacred Heart Cemetery with Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S Main Street, in charge of arrangements.

Margaret (Margo) was born January 13, 1917 in New York City, NY and adopted by Marion (Mullen) and Clarence Rourke. She received her elementary and high school education at St. Joseph Cathedral School in Sioux Falls, SD. Margaret entered Presentation convent January 6, 1939 and made her first profession of vows on May 1, 1941.

Sister Marietta received a Bachelor of Science Degree from St. Catherine College, St Paul, MN in 1951. She served as librarian at Presentation College, Aberdeen from 1951 until 1966, Notre Dame High School, Mitchell (1969-1970 and Holy Trinity High School, Winsted, MN from 1970 until 1984. Sister also ministered at Brady Memorial Home, Mitchell from 1984 until 1989. She retired at Presentation Convent in 1990.

Sister Marietta is survived by her community of Presentation Sisters and a niece, Margo (Rick) Middlen, Sioux Falls, SD. She is preceded in death by her parents Marion and Clarence Rourke.

Aberdeen Knights of Columbus will serve as casket bearers.
