Sisseton goose business honored at White House
SIOUX FALLS (AP) -- A Sisseton goose business is one of 71 honored at a White House event recognizing the success of manufacturing in rural America.
Schiltz Foods of Sisseton is a family business that grew from five geese in 1944 to more than 200,000 birds. Brothers Richard and Jim Schiltz took over for their dad, Marlin, several years ago, overseeing everything from production to marketing.
The businesses honored Friday have been supported by the U.S. Agriculture Department Rural Development's Business and Industry Guaranteed Loan Program, which helps provide capital and technical assistance to create jobs and spur economic development.
USDA Rural Development undersecretary Dallas Tonsager says the companies' innovation, dedication and hard work are creating jobs.
