Sioux Falls teen gets prison for attack on police
SIOUX FALLS (AP) — A Sioux Falls teen who led police on a high-speed chase through a crowded fairgrounds parking lot before assaulting two officers has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.
Nineteen-year-old David Lund was charged with aggravated assault on a police officer.
The Sioux Falls Argus Leader reported Lund was pulled over on Oct. 25 for failure to use headlights and took off when he was approached by police.
When pulled over a second time following the chase, Lund punched a Highway Patrol trooper in the face and then attacked a Sioux Falls police officer who stepped in to help.
The officer suffered a broken nose and other injuries that left him with $7,000 in medical bills. Lund was ordered to pay the officer’s medical costs and lost wages.
