Sioux Falls man indicted on murder, rape, burglary charges
SIOUX FALLS (AP) — A man accused of raping and strangling a 56-year-old Sioux Falls woman has been formally indicted on murder, rape and burglary charges.
The Argus Leader reports that 40-year-old Christopher Kryger also faces charges as a habitual criminal based on previous convictions for arson and aggravated assault.
Kryger was arrested last month days after Kari Anne Kirkegaard was found dead in her bathtub with the water running. Authorities say she was strangled with such force that it broke her neck.
A grand jury has indicted Kryger on five alternate counts of first-degree murder, one alternate count of second-degree murder, separate counts of second- and third-degree rape and two alternate counts of first-degree burglary.
Kryger remains in custody on no bond. His attorney did not immediately return a call seeking comment.
