SIOUX FALLS (AP) — The Sioux Falls City Council has approved funding for an indoor pool at the city's Spellerberg Park.
Council members after more than an hour of public debate on Tuesday night approved paying for the $19.4 million aquatic center with more than $11 million in capital funding left over from last year, and city budget money over the next three years.
City residents in April rejected a ballot measure for a new outdoor pool at Spellerberg Park following a campaign by a group pushing for an indoor pool.
Sanford Health earlier this month said it would commission a feasibility study on housing an indoor pool at the Sanford Sports Complex. Spokesman Mike Begeman on Monday said Sanford supports the city's plans to build at Spellerberg.
