Sioux Falls businessman charged with tax evasion
SIOUX FALLS (AP) -- The longtime owner of a Sioux Falls sod business faces federal charges that he's been illegally evading federal income taxes for more than a decade.
Jerome Adrian made his first appearance in federal court in Sioux Falls last week. He remains free on his promise to show up for future court appearances.
Court documents say the 70-year-old Adrian and a 76-year-old acquaintance, Raymond Ehrman, set up a number of trust accounts for Adrian's assets, and then used fake tax identification numbers.
Ehrman is charged with conspiracy in the alleged scheme. Adrian is accused of tax evasion, failing to pay taxes and taking a fake tax refund.
Adrian and Ehrman have pleaded not guilty.
