Sen. Johnson opposes nominee for Norway ambassador
SIOUX FALLS (AP) — U.S. Sen. Tim Johnson says he opposes President Barack Obama’s nominee for ambassador to Norway.
The South Dakota Democrat is joining others who believe that George Tsunis is not the right person for the job.
Tsunis is CEO of Chartwell Hotels and a top Democratic political fundraiser. Concerns were raised after a poor performance in his confirmation hearing before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee earlier this year. Johnson says Tsunis’ lack of knowledge about Norway doesn’t give him confidence he would be an effective ambassador.
