SDSU student's body discovered in De Smet
DE SMET -- Kingsbury County authorities said Sunday the body of a 22-yearold South Dakota State University student was discovered east of De Smet Saturday afternoon. His name was not released Sunday evening.
Sheriff Kevin Scotting said the body was found at around 4:30 p.m. Saturday. Train crews also spotted the body at that time, the sheriff told two local TV stations. The Brookings Police Department assisted Kingsbury County authorities, according to a sheriff's office employee Sunday night.
According to a published report, authorities believe the man rode the train from Brookings to De Smet and either fell or jumped off and tried to walk to town. The death is being investigated as an accident.
