SD, tribe team up on sex offender registry

PIERRE (AP) -- The state of South Dakota and the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe are teaming up to improve the state's sex offender registry.

Attorney General Marty Jackley says the state and tribe have entered into an agreement under which data from the tribe's offender registry will be submitted electronically into the state's registry. Jackley says the agreement is one of the first in the nation.

Tribal Chairman Kevin Keckler says protecting children "is of critical importance."
