PIERRE (AP) — The 15-inch limit on walleye is lifted on Lake Sharpe and Lake Francis Case for July and August.

South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks Department officials say they made the changes because walleye are harder to catch in those months.

The lakes are along the Missouri River, south of Pierre.

Anglers can harvest up to four walleye a day there, with only one over 20 inches.

Chris Longhenry is the state's senior fisheries biologist of Chamberlain. He says most walleye catches in the summer months are less than 15 inches. He says the policy accommodates the challenge of fishing at that time.

Beginning in September, all walleye caught in the same lakes must exceed 15 inches, with only one over 20.
