SD officials: Few details on health care enrollees
PIERRE (AP) — South Dakota insurance regulators say they don't know a lot about the people signing up for health insurance under the new health care law because the online market is run by the federal government.
State Insurance Director Merle Scheiber says many people are calling his office, mostly to report they are having trouble using the online health insurance exchange, which has been plagued by problems nationwide. But he tells a South Dakota Legislature committee there's little the state can do because the federal government is running the exchange in the state.
Lawmakers asked if the two dozen or so people who have signed up were uninsured before. But Melissa Klemann of the state Insurance Division says state officials haven't received that kind of information.
