SD National Guard unit back in US after nine months in Afghanistan
SIOUX FALLS (AP) — The South Dakota National Guard says soldiers of the 235th Military Police Company have arrived in the United States after a nine-month deployment in Afghanistan.
The military says the 124 soldiers arrived at Fort Bliss in Texas on Saturday night.
The soldiers will spend about a week in Texas completing demobilization requirements before returning to South Dakota. No precise details of the unit’s arrival to South Dakota were disclosed. The military says it was the third mobilization for the 235th since 2003.
The unit provides security for U.S. military personnel, installations and facilities. The soldiers also guard prisoners of war and civilian internees.
