A number of measures have been introduced in the South Dakota Legislature seeking to repeal the standards, block any expansion or study them.

South Dakota has adopted the Common Core standards, which establish what students should know at each grade level in math and English.

Daugaard says the Common Core standards were not written by the federal government, but were developed by governors and chief education officers from most states. He says he would support efforts to protect the privacy of student information.

The governor says the Common Core standards will help students think independently and solve problems.

Daugaard says people should read the standards for themselves online at: http://www.commoncore.sd.gov/
