SD Gov. Daugaard to speak at drug court graduation
PIERRE (AP) — South Dakota Gov. Dennis Daugaard will give the keynote address next week when the Northern Hills Drug Court holds a graduation ceremony for people who have completed its program.
The event will be held Oct. 29 at the Meade County Courthouse in Sturgis.
The Northern Hills Drug Court was South Dakota's first specialty court. It has served 101 clients since it was started in 2007, and it currently has 41 clients in an area that includes Butte, Lawrence, Meade and Pennington counties.
The program keeps drug offenders out of prison if they complete rehabilitation treatment.
South Dakota has six operating specialty courts, with four additional courts now being added. Those specialty courts include five drug courts, four DUI courts and one veterans court.
