SD college receives $2 million for wellness center

RAPID CITY (AP) — The South Dakota School of Mines and Technology is moving forward on a student wellness center after an alumnus donated $2 million for the project.

The school says the donation by Stephen D. Newlin should allow construction to start in February.

Students have already approved nearly $7 million in fees for the $8.9 million project.

The 34,000-square feet building will include two basketball courts, a group fitness room, rock climbing wall, locker rooms, and space for weight and cardio machines.

Newlin is president and chief executive officer of PolyOne Corp.
