School board venues set at two locations this week
The public will be welcome at two events showcasing the four candidates for the Mitchell Board of Education this week, organizers say.
Those candidates are Rod Hall, Rick Johnson, Deb Olson and Tara Volesky. The election is June 4, with the top two vote-getters each winning a seat on the board.
From 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, the Mitchell Rotary Club will sponsor a candidate debate in the banquet room of the Ramada Inn and Suites, 1525 W. Havens Ave., Mitchell.
Rotary President Jeff Smith said lunch will be served immediately and the debate will begin at 12:15 p.m. Smith said the public is welcome to attend without dining, but lunch may be purchased for $10 per meal. Visitors may also bring a sack lunch.
From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, the James Valley Community Center will sponsor a meet and greet where the public can meet the candidates and ask questions.
Activities Coordinator Kara Letcher said the candidates will serve the daily senior nutritional meal as part of the event and will begin serving at 11:30 a.m.
Anyone may order a hot meal for the event by calling 995-8440 before 9 a.m. Friday. The meal will cost $3.25 for people older than 60, or $5.50 for younger visitors.
Sandwiches may also be purchased at the JVCC's deli.
No outside food is allowed in the community center.
