School board to tour new stadium tonight
The Mitchell Board of Education will tour the new stadium at Joe Quintal Field as part of today's regularly scheduled board meeting.
The new stadium replaced a historic but aging structure at the same site. It will be used for sporting events for the first time this fall.
The meeting coincides with the first day of classes for all Mitchell public schools.
The meeting begins at 5 p.m. in Room 116 at the Mitchell Technical Institute campus, 821 N. Capital St. It's open to the public.
The board will consider:
Open enrollment applications and home schooling requests.
Voting for a candidate for the small school board of education position on the South Dakota High School Activities Association.
Declaring some school property surplus so that it may be sold.
Approving the following personnel items:
New hires: Joan Fergen, food service, two hours daily at $9.49 an hour, effective Aug. 17; Wayne Hjellum. computer technician, MTI, $27,000 a year, effective Aug. 30; John Mitchell, Gertie Belle Rogers Elementary custodian, eight hours daily at $10 an hour.
Resignations: Taryn Anderson, paraeducator, GBR, effective Aug. 27; Alisa Thill, special education, Mitchell Middle School, effective Aug. 23.
MTI fall adjunct faculty: Bruce Zavesky, electronics, math, Huron campus, $1,050; Christ Marcus, electronics lab, Huron, $4,320; Ron VanderHeiden, welding, $480; Julie Hart Schutte, psychology, $1,620; Donna Appletoft, MST 260, $1620; and Linda McEntee, two computer classes at $1,620 each.
