Rounds raises about $724K in 1Q, has $1M on hand
SIOUX FALLS (AP) — Former Gov. Mike Rounds raised about $724,000 during the first three months of 2014 for his campaign for a U.S. Senate seat.
Rounds' Federal Election Commission report shows he spent $868,000 during the quarter ending March 31, with about $517,000 going to media through Sioux Falls-based advertising firm Lawrence & Schiller.
The Republican had about $1 million cash on hand as of March 31. Rounds' report showed no campaign debt.
Also seeking the seat being vacated by the retiring Sen. Tim Johnson are state Sen. Larry Rhoden of Union Center, state Rep. Stace Nelson of Fulton, Sioux Falls physician Annette Bosworth and Yankton attorney and soldier Jason Ravnsborg.
Rick Weiland is the sole Democratic candidate, and former Republican U.S. Sen. Larry Pressler is running as an independent.
