Rollover results in minor injuries, liquid fertilizer spill
DIMOCK — A single-vehicle accident on Monday evening resulted in minor injuries for a Dimock man and spilled liquid fertilizer, authorities said.
Highway Patrol Trooper Matthew Petersen said 63-year-old Daniel Kurtenbach, of Dimock, was driving a straight truck hauling liquid fertilizer westbound on 270th Street, just south of Dimock, around 7:15 p.m. Monday. Petersen said when Kurtenbach looked down at the shift handle, he drifted into the north ditch along 270th Street. When Kurtenbach tried to steer back onto the road, the vehicle rolled over one time.
Petersen said Kurtenbach was transported by ambulance to Avera Queen of Peace Hospital in Mitchell with minor injuries. Citations are pending.
Petersen said liquid fertilizer spilled into the ditch; he said other equipment was brought in to begin cleaning up the spill. Hutchinson County Emergency Manager Dave Hoffman confirmed cleanup was ongoing as of Monday night, but declined further comment.
The Hutchinson County Sheriff’s Offi ce, Parkston Fire Department, Hutchinson County Emergency Management and Highway Patrol responded.
